The Mpumalanga Province is proud to announce the upcoming launch of Zikhala Kanjani, a critical initiative aimed at empowering Adolescents and Young People (AYP), particularly Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), who are disproportionately impacted by HIV & AIDS. The launch of Zikhala Kanjani is part of the province’s broader Provincial Implementation Plan (PIP), which seeks to position AYP at the forefront of the HIV & AIDS response while addressing other key social challenges.
Why Zikhala Kanjani?
In South Africa, AYP account for a significant portion of People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and are also at the highest risk of facing unemployment, unplanned pregnancies, and Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). The Zikhala Kanjani initiative aims to enhance youth participation in the HIV response and provide holistic support to address the factors that make young people vulnerable, including GBVF, early pregnancies, and other social issues.
